Our classroom and outdoor play space is intentionally designed to encourage children to play with a variety of loose parts and open-ended materials. Rather than giving children an overstimulating experience, the environment both inside and out is meant to create a calm and comfortable world where children feel safe to explore unique materials to make the space their own. This kind of environment fosters creative thinking and ingenuity, and allows children to feel safe and secure because they are fully in charge of their play.
Children are given many opportunities for independence throughout the day, while still being surrounded with nurturing guidance from myself and their peers. Children are able to refill their own water bottles, gather their own art supplies whenever they choose, and use child-sized items like brooms and shovels to engage in their pretend play and classroom upkeep. Our outdoor space has raised garden beds and a variety of plant life that children and families are invited to use and through which they can learn about the natural world.
Because children are always growing and learning, the space will grow with them. Check back here for photos of the space as it grows with our community.
